The Atkins Diet and Your Kidneys

There are two different types of Ketogenic Diet or Ketosis. The first is known as the condition which results from ingesting a very low amount of carbohydrates (less than ten grams daily) for at least three months. The second type is known as the condition which involves the consumption of excessive amounts of carbohydrates, known as the "miracle" diet. Both of these conditions can be dangerous to the body and the health of a person.
Everything you need to know about the Atkins Diet
Ketosis can have serious repercussions on the kidneys. Some people believe that there is a cure for ketosis which will minimize the damage to the kidney.
Some people are quick to suggest a diet that is low in carbohydrates, and high in proteins. These diets have been promoted as the solution to any health problems which may be associated with using the Ketogenic Diet.

Advantages of Atkins Diet

The short-term and long-term advantages of using the Atkins Diet to treat diabetes are not adequately described by its promoters. Atkins claims that the Atkins Diet will help control blood sugar levels by reducing the body's intake of carbohydrates. In many ways this is true.
However, this same diet reduces the intake of protein in addition to the important source of carbohydrates. When your body does not have to produce as much insulin as it would when you were consuming carbohydrates, then it will reduce the amount of sugar that the body needs to consume and thereby release the insulin in the body to regulate the amount of sugar that it takes from the bloodstream.
Atkins claims that the high-carbohydrate diet is helpful in controlling diabetes because it helps the pancreas function properly. However, the pancreas also does a very important job during the weight loss process.
When carbohydrate intake is reduced, it forces the pancreas to break down protein into glucose and then to make insulin. When the pancreas stops working and cannot break down protein, the results can lead to an increased risk of diabetes and heart disease.
Your body has to be nourished for the production of insulin, and it also needs nutrients for the production of amino acids. Once you start using a diet such as the Atkins Diet, your insulin levels are going to go down, and then you will start to consume foods that are poor sources of minerals and vitamins. As a result, you will be at risk of malnutrition and of actually starving yourself.
Proper nutrition is necessary for optimal health. When carbohydrates are eliminated from your diet, you should start thinking about adding more proteins, and more complex carbohydrates.
This is the most essential source of carbs for the body. Foods that are rich in proteins, such as egg whites, can replace all or part of the Carbohydrate in your diet. In some cases, substituting one meal for another (such as breakfast for lunch) will help you maintain the correct balance of carbs, proteins, and fats, which is what is needed for optimal health.
The body can get all of the complex carbohydrates from vegetables, as long as it is from sources that are also low in starch. These vegetable sources include broccoli, spinach, and lettuce.
Fruits and vegetables are not good sources of carbohydrates because they are too rich in fiber. Good carbohydrates are found in whole grains, beans, and nuts.
